Identifying the Bacteria
Necrotizing Fasciitis is caused by group A Streptococcus and Staphylococcus species. Common bacteria such as Streptococcus pyogenes has been linked to causing the detrimental infection. This bacteria is commonly known to cause strep throat. However, when able to infect the deeper layers of the skin, the connective tissue, S. pyogenes and other bacteria can do much greater damage to the human body. As it is seen with this particular flesh eating infection. Many other group A bacteria have also been made responsible for causing Necrotizing Fasciitis. Such as Staphylococcus aureus, Clostridium perfringens, Bacteroides fragilis, and Aeromonas hydrophila. (WebMD)
